Huh!!!! This list is exactly what you need if you are looking to fail. Gem-N-Me is very passionate about life and where we are with our organization. We are coming up on our year anniversary in a few months, and we took the time to reflect on everything that we have accomplished. We started meeting in a library, and now we meet at one of the most popular Boys and Girls Club in our area. We are featured monthly on the Tigress blog, we have had 3 fundraisers, we have created partnerships, and hosted a seminar at a conference. How wouldn’t we have been able to accomplish so much this year without passion? We ended this month with a very inspirational business seminar that gave us the push we needed to get us over the upcoming hump. We are passionate about girls, leading, inspiring, empowering, helping, and connecting just to name a few. Gem-N-Me is working very hard to keep our passions alive and tapping into everything we think that will move us to that next level. Moving to the next level for Gem-N-Me means taking our program to generating funds and giving back to the community.
This month’s gemstone is opal because it focuses on the emotions, including love and passion.
My advice would be to work your ass off first and foremost and that passion of yours will not feel like such a tough task. From working everyday of the week to pulling all nighters I can say that I would do it all again. So many things for Gem-N-Me was self taught from marketing to social media that nothing at this point could discourage us in any form or fashion.
One of our toughest recent moments is when we spent about five hours between travel and set up to sell clothes for a flea market. We were so confident that we would generate at least $200 bucks in just a few hours that day. When we heard about the event, the coordinator upsold the advertising to us stating that last year over 1000 people had walked through the door. After putting in another 8 hours at the actual sale, we profited a whopping $6.00! That is not even worth the gas money that it took to get there. We were bummed, disappointed, tired, upset and even discouraged from doing it again. After we have a brief meeting just a couple weeks later we decided that we would give this another shot knowing that this is the fasted way to make just a few bucks. We share this because in only one short year we have experience a great deal of failure and there are downfalls in the type of work and we can’t let something like that stop us trying again. To leave with this is that it is our point that if you’re passionate about something goes for it and don’t stop until you get the results you want to see.
Losing your passion? You must remember your “why”. Why did you start your business? Why did you decide to make a difference? If you stay charged up with your “why”, then you are least likely to get burned out. You also should make sure that you stay around positive people. Make sure that you do not have any leeches in your circle. It’s okay to let anyone go if they are a leech! It’s okay to let anyone go that is pouring negativity into your life. You must know that you can not do everything. If you are the creative person, do not let your time and energy get sucked up in the paperwork organizing and accounting. Do what you are best at! When you are stuck doing all the things that you hate, you lose passion. Also remember that everyone, every organization, every group will hit a rough spot at some point. Do not get discouraged! There is something to learn in every situation.
