Ladies, Knowledge is Power!
I believe that women have come such a long way since the early 1930s. No longer are we just put into the box of limiting ourselves of settling for the housewife title, we are becoming judges, doctors, engineers, and so even close to becoming president of the USA. With so many opportunities out there especially in the U.S it’s amazing to see the improvements we have made since 50 years ago especially for the African American race.
Females are now enrolled in college more at higher rates than our male counterparts and even greater news is that African American women have the highest percentage of being enrolled in college versus any other group.
Moving forward with more recent times the media has even sent out positive messages of us showing all that we can be. From the children’s shows through adult shows like Doc Mcstuffins, Sister Sister, The Cosby Show, and A Different World, Girlfriends- hey even the Parkers all show encouraging portrayals of black females (overall).
Though we may be coming up in statistics, behind closed doors there is still a lot of unjust going on. Females compared to men often get paid far less even if they both possess the same credentials for the same job position. Educating ourselves is the new trend, and I feel the more we can encourage and pride ourselves of being all that we can be, setting new heights and bars to reach, and reaching goals, passing milestones that we thought we couldn’t do 50 years ago will be all the better. Knowledge is power, and hopefully 50 years later down the line inequality in the workplace between women and men will be broken down entirely.
